In March 1990, Mike Etten spotted something along Bray Road, at around 2:00 in the morning. He saw a dark-haired creature that was bigger than a dog. Whatever it was that he saw was sitting ‘like a raccoon sits’, using its front paws to hold onto something that it was eating. He described the head as being thick and wide, with a snout that was not as long as a dog’s, with a body that was covered with dark, thick hair and legs that were big and thick. The most dramatic sighting took place on Halloween of the following year when Doris Gipson was driving along Bray Road and her car seemed to run over something. She stopped the car, got out and after finding nothing on the roadway she began to look around which was when she noticed a dark, hairy form racing towards her. Startled by the oncoming form, and by the sounds of its heavy feet, she quickly retreated into the car. While attempting to drive away, the beast jumped onto her trunk, however it was unable to hang on and fell onto the pavement. When she returned to the site later that night with a trick-or-treater she again saw a large form on the side of the road.
In February of 1992, Scott Bray’s wife Tammy had her own encounter with the unknown creature. She was driving along and skidded to a stop after seeing a large dog-like animal dash in front of her. The creature had a broad chest and pointed ears and was covered with matted brown and black fur. The narrow nose, thick neck and shinning yellow eyes convinced her that she was face to face with the same creature her husband had seen in their field.
The final documented sightings took place in the summer of 1992 and belonged to Tom Brichta. Tom and a friend were driving home one night when they saw a “massive humanoid” form crouched by the side of the road, which looked like it was eating road kill. The beast then lunged at and scratched their car. They noticed the muscular, powerful look of the creature, but also noted that it had a pointed muzzle and ears. Tom’s second sighting occurred two months later when he was accompanied by a different friend. This time the two Palmyra high school seniors gazed in awe as a seven to eight foot creature walked easily on two legs alongside a cornfield. The creature then turned and looked straight at them, the creature then lifted its legs as if it was stepping over something and with that turned to go back into the cornfield, pushing the corn aside in front of it.
